Players escape punishment over ‘vicious’ attack on referee

Furthermore, the Chairman has been given a lifetime ban.”The statement goes on to explain: “The personal hearings of the three players charged with misconduct were found Not Proven and there will be no further action.”At the time of the incident, independent charity Ref Support UK described it as the worst attack on a referee it had seen on British soil.Responding to the latest FA statement, Ref Support UK CEO Martin Cassidy, said: “It is very easy to see that there are at least two people kicking and tripping that referee. This is reflected in current FA guidelines with assaults carrying a mandatory minimum five year suspension from all football activity. As consequence, the GS FC chairman has been suspended for life for his part in the assault on the referee at the Turkish Community Football Federation cup final.“It is important to note that FA rules only apply to participants, such as clubs, players, coaches and referees, and not spectators. As a result, it was the club as an entity which was fined under FA rules for failure to control its spectators and fined £700. The club has since disbanded.”Football’s rulebook currently prohibits referees from wearing body cameras.Ref Support UK is campaigning for IFAB, which sets the laws of the game, to abolish the regulation.Mr Cassidy said: “If there had been a body camera on that referee the visual images would have been closer and clearer, and more people would have been found guilty.
